The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Outstanding voice acting!
I absolutely loved this voice actor!! I am a bit sad that this book is over, though, since the next few books are narrated by another voice actor - which will take a little getting used to.
I think those who decide to use this book as French practice should decide their purchase of this title in two trains of thought: those who have read the books already and those who haven’t.
To those who have already read the books and are wanting to practice French: I would definitely recommend this book.
To those who haven’t read the books and want to practice French should definitely prepare themselves mentally for the intense gauntlet ahead of them. 21 hours is no joke. And if you’re gonna finish this book, you’re gonna need some grit. It can get a little slow in some parts, and this book doesn’t really pick up until chapter 7-8ish, which is already several hours into the book. It’s already slower since you’re listening to it and not reading. It will be even slower if you are bad at French. It will be still slower if you have not read the first three books first.
That being said, I would still absolutely recommend this book for people in this group. Being able to understand what’s going on in the intense moments is extremely rewarding. All the highs and lows are made even better thanks to the superb voice acting.
If you stick it out, you will find yourself celebrating along with the characters, too (or crying).
Tl;dr The experience is so great I even recommend this to people who don’t speak French.

Excellent as always
An excellent translation read by an excellent voice actor. If you've loved the previous volumes, you'll love this one too.

Incredible performance!
Perfectly read by Bernard Giraudeau, whose various voices give such life to an already captivating story!

Fake voices were too much
The narrator's fake voices made it difficult to understand. When he switched to an un-natural, fake voice to sound another character, he lost clarity. It would have been better if they had simply used different actors to play the different voices. One man playing so many voices is ridiculous.
