Publisher's summary

Avery Shaw is back on the story, and she's better - or maybe more bitter - than ever.

After a brief (but not brief enough, by her estimation) sojourn into sports, Avery finds herself back in the news department. She's got one thing on her mind: bringing perennial nemesis Tad Ludington to his knees.

Unfortunately for her, another story pops up, and Avery has to divide her limited attention span to accomplish multiple goals.

When a local woman goes missing and is later found dead, Avery finds a tangled web of sex, lies, and...well...just overall freaky people to focus on. One man is identified by witnesses, but another may be guilty: the woman's husband.

When Avery starts investigating, she finds the husband is involved in an underground scene that involves bondage-and-submission sex clubs - something that goes against one intrepid reporter's very nature. Avery convinces Eliot to take her to a club, and the new world is full of mystery, danger, and a lot of baby oil.

Between hiding a source, grappling with her family, and an imminent Valentine's Day that has her stomach in knots, Avery has her hands full.

When things come to a head, Avery's life is in danger. Again. Can Eliot and Jake keep her safe? And can Eliot manage to keep his surprise holiday plans under wraps and really give Avery something to remember when the big day finally arrives?

Only time will tell, and Avery may be running out of it.

Love it !!

Another fun filled adventure, so glad the main character Avery isn't bouncing back and forth between he ex Jake and current boyfriend Eliot. Like that she seems to be maturing in this relationship without losing her sassy witty mouth. Story line was good and kept you wondering. When I first started listening was not sure about the reader but know can't imagine anyone else. This is one series that has me openly laughing many times throughout the book. Can't get enough of all her book series please keep them coming!

iii Loved it!!

this book does mark the beginning of the cutting out of air quote, vulgar, language. im not entirely sure if this is bc Avery is growing as a person, or if AML caved to some kind of public outcry. either way, im not Quite sure how i feel about it. i Liked the fact that Avery, and other members of her inner circle, swore. actual swears that real ppl use in real life. im not a foul-mouthed moron who substitutes vulgarity for a working vocabulary. but there Are times when ppl swear! it's not like Avery, Eliot, or Jake dropped f-bombs and the like every other word, or to disrespect anyone, Or to ppl who wouldn't take kindly to it. !! personally, i thought it made the characters seem more true to life. it's one thing to phase it out on account of Avery's personal growth. it's an entirely different thing if AML stopped her characters' swearing to appease the masses. That kind of thing just irks me!
..anyway, other than that, this is another AML smash hit and instant classic in my book. especially when it comes to Eliot's valentine's day surprise! oh Heck yeah!!!;)

Meh

The heroine is a judgy bully and confrontational at every turn in her personal life. I felt sorry for her bf and ex. She was too much for me and I found her unlikable at best. She ruined the story for me. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator was okay.

Good

Avery’s life is a mess, and who does like her if anyone. From the new publisher and the staff at the newspaper, to her love life. Enjoyable and with good narration. Given audio for my voluntary review

Just horrible...

I didn’t get very far...the narrators’s voice is so juvenile and childish- that ruined it for me
