About this listen

Badass heroine Devi Morris returns for another action-packed space adventure in the thrilling conclusion to Rachel Bach's Paradox trilogy.

From the moment she took a job on Captain Caldswell's doomed ship, Devi Morris's life has been one disaster after another: government conspiracies, two alien races out for her blood, an incurable virus that's eating her alive.

Now, with the captain missing and everyone—even her own government—determined to hunt her down, things are going from bad to impossible. The sensible plan would be to hide and wait for things to blow over, but Devi's never been one to shy from a fight, and she's getting mighty sick of running.

It's time to put this crisis on her terms and do what she knows is right. But with all human life hanging on her actions, the price of taking a stand might be more than she can pay.

A grand conclusion

This was more of the same action and battles as we saw in the previous books, but now all the characters learn the details about what the aliens are really after. Devi has come a long way since the start of this story and has a few more lessons to face.

This is a real page turner.

A lot of authors struggle to pull things together, but this series just got better as it went on.

Excellent writing and fantastic finish

The voice actor performs the story with realistic emotional tone that adds believability to the characters and their development.

The author creates an immersive world and carefully weaves everything together in this last book of the series for a terrific climax, a satisfying denouement, heartfelt closure, and yet leaves the door open for another adventure with the protagonists.

I highly recommend this set of books for people who enjoy close-quarters violent combat scenes, humans vs. aliens, political intricacies, twists and reversals, meaningful romance, wry humor, and “save-the-universe” stakes.

The ending is especially well-written as it sustains the tension so the climax is powerful. So good!

Great trilogy

This has been an awesome trilogy, causing me to skip chores as I listened to the story. I love those type of books that you just can’t put down. I noticed that the first two books in the trilogy were published back in 2013 in 2014 and then this final one was in 2022. I don’t know the story behind it but I am sure glad that I didn’t find this trilogy until they were all ready to be listened to via Audible. I think the story was wrapped up nicely, not too sure if I liked the fairytale part of the ending, but I highly recommend this book to everyone.

So enjoyed this trilogy

Wow, I hope more readers discover this great story! I usually allow time between books in a series, but was having such a wonderful time with these books that I listened to them all back-to-back. There are so many satisfying and enjoyable moments in this tale! I loved the development of Rupert and Devi's relationship over time, and Devi's turbulent and ambivalent relationship with Caldswell.... it was great also to learn more about Maat and the phantoms...what their goals are and how they came to be in their respective situations. I also very much enjoyed the characterizations, even those of some of the less central characters who nonetheless had a lot of personality.
There were a few aspects of the pacing of this final volume that I found slightly frustrating compared to the other two volumes, but it wasn't enough to cause me not to enjoy the ride. Awesome job by Emily Durante with all the voices-- she's one of those narrators that can usually make the men's voices quite convincing. Her pacing and timing were terrific, also... and she was perfectly understandable without sounding like she is spitting out every single consonant separately, like some narrators do!
Anyway, thanks, Rachel Bach, for making November 2024 a better month because I got to listen to your very entertaining trilogy. I appreciate all the work that went into writing and recording it!
