About this listen

One body on the sunny beach is all it takes for PI Leo Waterman to feel a chill.

After seven months laying low in Ocean Beach, California, Seattle PI Leo Waterman has finally stopped looking over his shoulder - specifically, for the vengeful band of Washington white supremacists who blame Leo for blindsiding their big plans for America. Where better to disappear with his bodyguard, Gabe, than this laid-back stretch of San Diego heaven? But when Leo finds a boy’s body on the beach, he comes out of hiding to investigate.

That’s when Leo discovers that the victim is not an isolated missing-persons case. It’s the key to something bigger, and it’s leading Leo and Gabe into the dark heart of a human trafficking ring in Mexico. But whatever dangers lay ahead of them, they’re matched threat for threat by what’s coming up from behind.

Because the fanatics back home haven’t given up on Leo. Now he and Gabe are caught in the cross fire between two evils. And each one has its own reasons for making sure both men end up dead and buried. Heavy on the dead.

love this series

More please. I really enjoy the mystery, humor and very human side to this series. sometimes the joke goes by before I catch it so I back up 30 seconds to hear it.
perfect book to listen to with other people as there are not scenes that might be embarrassing.

Serious subject, with a LOT of action

Another good solid Leo Waterman tale. His adventures will never get old. This one got a tiny bit hard to follow with more than usual bad guys and Ford used dif “nicknames “! Kinda missed entirely who Garrett even was, lol. I did miss his usual “crew” but him being in hiding, it is forgivable! Think with this one I needed to listen closer than usual. But thats ok I’ve listened to all the books 2-3x each over the years. This will be the same. As usual Patrick Lawlor is flawless! Please Mr. Ford, never, ever use anyone else!

Characters, good action, and humor

I have been listening to GM fours series, starring Leo Waterman, and have really enjoyed the reading of them. I. I like the humor, bombastic phrases, and the other cast of characters like Gabe, I also enjoy Patrick Lawler as reader.

I'm getting used to G.M. Ford's writing style and

I'm getting used to G.M. Ford's sometimes sardonic writing style and find Patrick Lawlor's narration well suited. Unfortunately the first few books in this series are not available in audio but I'm enjoying the rest so far. This one finds Leo and his sidekick hiding in California from some white supremacists. One thing leads to another and before they know it they are up to their eyeballs in a child smuggling racket that almost costs them their lives. When I'm in the mood for this kind of entertainment I find this series entertaining and have another in my wish list. This one is in the bottom of the top tier in my library.

Decent story with a lot of flaws

If it wasn’t for the interesting characters (Leo and Gabe specifically) I would not read these books. Mr. Ford continuity issues. Previous books Leo had been married once and now he has never married. They also have other story flaws. But other all I enjoyed it. A meandering tale if I ever heard one that wraps up sort of nicely in the end.

Not for me.

The story has multiple tough-guy cursing/phrasing, tough guy understatements and improbable plot developments. I understnd that this genre is well-liked by many, but... not for me.
The narrator has an unusual, distracting manner of clearly making certain that he is pronouncing each. word. correctly.
