About this listen

Helicon Drive is the first installment of the Poetic Score series, a new form of audiobook entertainment created by Adam and Eric Sullivan of Quiet Place. This unique series is characterized by having a full musical composition underneath each narrated chapter, enhancing emotion and capturing the true essence of a story.

Helicon Drive is a glimpse into the lives of Daniel, a medical resident, and Beenie, a waitress in her mid-20s - complete strangers who were destined to meet. This is a short story about the birth of hope and love in the midst of tragedy and confusion. Helicon Drive sheds light on love's eternal grasp, not bound by this body, space, or time. The notion that love and a sense of purpose from this life can be carried to the next.

After the death of a patient, Daniel becomes rattled with confusion, denial, and a fading sense of self. In the wake of this tragedy, he finds Beenie. Despite their undeniable attraction to one another, each remains focused on the search for the answer - an answer to the problem that burdens them both. After days of sharing intense glances and enticing body language, Beenie would give anything to speak to this man who now haunts her dreams. Daniel can't deny Beenie's beauty and becomes consumed by it. Someone he initially thought to be a distraction from his search has now become his object of desire.

By the time the lovers realize that what they were searching for was each other, life tries to rip them apart. Now, caught in the vice grip of life, is Daniel and Beenie's love strong enough to last?

Captivating

Good storyline, great lesson and moral to take away from the characters actions and evolution of their outtake on life.

The Sample Clip does not do the Story Justice

What made the experience of listening to Helicon Drive the most enjoyable?

The story itself was beautiful and the music worked well with the piece.

What other book might you compare Helicon Drive to and why?

Honestly I don't have one for you.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

Her calming voice.
I don't like mixed performers in some of my audiobooks but they worked well here.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes; I set aside a morning to listen to it and I finished it in one sitting

Any additional comments?

It wasn't what I expected after hearing the clip. I don't like romance novels/stories unless there some sort of twist and this story definetly delivered. I didn't look at the waitress as a person but as a symbol of faith itself. Faith is enticing and beautiful and something that calls out to us quietly. When we find it, it binds itself fiercely to us and lifts us up. Like when they danced and kissed in the street. I just feel like this book is well worth the money and time. I really enjoyed it.

Solid book!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to a friend because the story is great and it makes you want to keep listening.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Helicon Drive?

The most memorable moment was probably when Daniel jumped in front of the truck for Mary's daughter. It was very symbolic and the writing was very vivid. I could see it all in my head.

Did the narrators do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes by giving them distinct voices that made it easy to distinguish between the different characters.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Daniel was in the chapel praying/crying out that really moved me.

Any additional comments?

I believe overall that this is a great story with an amazing musical score. The only thing I would say is that sometimes the voice acting can be a bit over-dramatic and laughable. The music is AMAZING and I found that it fit the story well however sometimes it overpowered the narrator and the other characters so I would make it more background than anything.
