About this listen

New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Shelley Shepard Gray begins a new series - The Amish of Hart County - with this suspenseful tale of a young Amish woman who is forced to move to a new town to escape a threatening stalker.

After a stalker went too far, Hannah Hilty and her family had no choice but to leave the bustling Amish community where she grew up. Now she's getting a fresh start in Hart County, Kentucky...if only she wasn't too scared to take it. Hannah has become afraid to trust anyone - even Isaac, the friendly Amish man who lives next door. She wonders if she'll ever return to the trusting, easygoing woman she once was.

For Isaac Troyer, the beautiful girl he teasingly calls "The Recluse" confuses him like no other. When he learns of her past, he knows he's misjudged her. However, he also understands the importance of being grateful for God's gifts and wonders if they will ever have anything in common. But as Hannah and Isaac slowly grow closer, they realize that there's always more to someone than meets the eye.

Just as Hannah is finally settling in to her new life and perhaps finding a new love, more secrets are revealed, and tragedy strikes. Now Hannah must decide if she should run again or dare to fight for the future she has found in Hart County.

Wonderful story!!

I really loved this one! Even a touch of romance (even if it's unrealistic) didn't bother this "leave the romance to the romance book" type of listener. It was cute!
Only thing I wish writers would quit (along with other ex-Amish readers/listeners) is the overuse of "wunderbar" and "ain't so?" It can be comical at times. This book used it somewhat alot but not enough that I quit listening.
Great job!

loved it!

Tavia Gilbert did such a great job with this story. I was totally caught up, and forgot that one person was doing all the voices! The story itself is suspenseful and realistic. I appreciated how the author chose to end things. Well done!

Never Disappointed!

Ms. Grays books about the Amish are so comfortable and so delightful. Even when the plot is serious, it still feels like a warm blanket covering you. It's like an old memory that pops up with her descriptions of the season and the outdoors. The characters are very lifelike in her books. The audible version is always spot on. Tavia Gilbert changes voices so easily that one doesn't even notice it. It flows as does the prose. So melodic and yet very believable at the same time.
Try this on Audible and I believe you won't be disappointed on your pick. Fondly, J. C.

Mixed Feelings on this one

What made the experience of listening to Her Secret the most enjoyable?

I did enjoy the "edge of your seat" tension. Hannah had every right to be afraid, but sometimes it was over the top.

What other book might you compare Her Secret to and why?

Can't think of one book in particular. It was suspenseful.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I do think Tavia Gilbert is very talented, but... she's really over the top. Her voice was very grating in suspenseful scenes, and it was a bit nerve wracking. I understand adding suspense to the story, but she sounded so freaked out, it just made me nervous. Maybe pulling back just a little would make it more enjoyable. Tavia is very talented, I've listened to her other performances, she just gets too shrill in this one.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Run Hannah, Run

Any additional comments?

It's a good book, it does have it's moments, as I mentioned above that I would change if I were directing this performance, but over all, it's worth the credit. Shelley Shepard Gray is a gifted writer, Tavia Gilbert is, over all, a talented lady. I think Ms. Gray should seek out some different readers. I've listened to 10 of her audio books and really wasn't happy with any of the readers. I do have suggestions! Lauren Holladay or Susan Boyce. They are both calmer, but hit it right on the head when there is suspense in the text.

I liked that this story had the love of god in it's community.

I dislike the criminal in this story. and that there were neighbors that needed to be redeveloped.
