Story
You can’t truly understand the last decade of the 20th century without a look at the muddy, electrifying rock music that would come to define it: grunge. For such a short-lived genre—at least in the mainstream—grunge had a lasting impact on American music and culture. It also provides a unique lens through which to examine the post-Reagan, pre-internet America of the 1990s. In the six lectures of The Story of Grunge, you’ll explore the rise and evolution of the genre, tracing it from Seattle subculture to MTV and the Billboard charts, all the way to its decline and evolution into new forms.

Story
The very strange but nevertheless true story of the dark underbelly of a 1960s hippie utopia. Laurel Canyon in the 1960s and early 1970s was a magical place where a dizzying array of musical artists congregated to create much of the music that provided the soundtrack to those turbulent times. But there was a dark side to that scene as well. Many didn't make it out alive, and many of those deaths remain shrouded in mystery to this day.

Story
No one other than Warren Zanes, rocker and writer and friend, could author a book about Tom Petty that is as honest and evocative of Petty's music and the remarkable rock and roll history he and his band helped to write. Born in Gainesville, Florida, with more than a little hillbilly in his blood, Tom Petty was a Southern shit kicker, a kid without a whole lot of promise. Rock and roll made it otherwise.

I was so happy to come across this audiobook on a car trip when I was curious about my favorite 80s band. The guide was brief, fun facts about the bands I loved growing up—from where they originated to where they are now, with bonus music and photos. It really answered my questions and added extra enjoyment to my ride. A must-listen for anybody looking to learn more about that era!

Back to the 80's
This book took me back to my high school days, which was such a fun time for music! This book is full of facts that brought back so many memories, I felt like I was reliving my teenage years. I loved hearing all the stories behind all the great bands and artists especially where they are now. It covers some of the biggest names and even a few bands I had completely forgotten about. The music trivia was really fun. I love the title because, it is spot on. Back then you could never have enough Hairspray. I absolutely enjoyed this from start to finish, such a fun listen!

Took Me Right Back to the Glory Days
I grew up blasting hair metal, so flipping through this book felt like reliving my teenage years. What I loved most is how it covers some of the big names and a bunch of bands I totally forgot about. It’s part nostalgia trip, part music trivia fun. The tone is casual, like talking to a fellow fan who really knows their stuff. I found myself looking up old tracks and discovering a few new ones I missed back then. If you lived through the ‘80s metal scene—or wish you had—this is a fun, solid read to have on your shelf.

Fun and Nostalgic Guide for Any 80s Hair Metal Fan
I really enjoyed this audiobook because it felt like listening to a fun conversation about one of my favorite music eras. The author shares interesting facts, band histories, and personal insights on so many classic hair metal bands from A to M. I liked how it was easy to follow, even if you’re just getting into the genre. It brought back a lot of great memories and gave me a few new bands to check out. I’d recommend this to any fan of 80s hair metal or anyone curious about the bands that defined the era.

All you need to know about hair metal!
This book is basically the first half of an 80s metal encyclopedia, featuring bands that start with the letters A-M. You can learn about any of the bands you missed, complete with a music sample, or skip to the chapters on your favorites for details and a refresher. I opted to listen to them all. Most of the bands I'd never heard of. The narrator's up-tempo, nerdy delivery is perfect for the book, bringing a lively energy that keeps the reader engaged. The chapters are short and packed with album and song facts as well as chart performance data. The end of each chapter provides the complete roster for the band's entire career.
