About this listen

Garrett Benson never imagined his life would turn out like it did. He was just a laid-back Southern kid in the late 1990s with the simple worries of chasing tail and figuring out what do with his life after graduation. Even though his high school sweetheart is beginning to pressure him into marriage, Garrett is torn because he believes there are more opportunities awaiting him outside his little Tennessee town.

But Garrett is hesitant to venture out because he is so close-knit with his family. He grew up rather sheltered and hasn’t had many life experiences, but that all changes when he meets a new love interest.

Warning sign after warning sign flashes at Garrett to give him cause to walk away, but blinded by lust, Garrett initially ignores her faults as she lures him into a dark world, all in his hometown. These new exposures test Garrett’s psychological limits more than a few times and place him in the fight of his life for his freedom and the safety of his family.

Before he even realizes it, Garrett is trapped inside a new reality he never thought possible, and he must adapt quickly to ensure things go his way. Garrett begins to realize the malicious nature of people and is more than willing to get his hands dirty to ensure his enemies’ downfall, whether they deserve it or not.

Inspired by true events, this story will draw the listener in and keep them engaged while they identify with characters and their struggles and also catch a glimpse of the darker side of Southern culture.

I loved it

I had to write a contrasting review of my experience with this book. I loved it. Couldn’t put it down. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. It’s rude, crude, socially unacceptable, its characters are all immoral idiots, and they make stupid decisions. Graphic sex scenes and illicit drug use abound, and, yes, they are absolutely racist. It’s also entitled “Hillbilly Heroin”. Not a lot of expectation in that title for a role model hero to emerge. Despite their lack of sense, in my sense of the term, I did find the characters and relationships fascinating. I honestly don’t know why it sucked me in like it did, but it did. I’ll absolutely get the next title of his I see.

Entertaining

Not a dull moment. Able to visualize the characters and comprehend the "simplicity" of their lifestyle, without giving pity to their culture.

Kept my Attention Beginning to End!

I have never listened to a book before and was worried I'd be able to pay attention..... from the minute this story started it captured me. Moments of shock I'm sure came over my face while listening. It was well written and entertaining for certain.

Don’t waste your credit

Worst book I have ever read or heard. Monotone narration, story all over the place.

By FAR the Worst Book I've Ever Come Across

No words exist within the human lexicon to express just how bad this book is in story, narration, plot, and character development. Absolutely nobody in this book is redeemable and there is no protagonist. The only reason for owning a tangible copy of this is if you are stranded on an island and there is absolutely nothing else to do, like after you've eaten all the sand and sea creatures possible, and have been chewing on tree bark just to stay alive and, with nothing left to do, you figure out how to rub sticks together to make fire. Then this book would be helpful for rolling and bending the pages to create more surface area with which to start a fire.

** SPOILERS AHEAD**

If you enjoy detailed but disgusting sex scenes where the main character admittedly reaches crescendo within 2 minutes EVERY TIME in every chapter, including banging his ex-girlfriend a mere day after he marries his pregnant wife, then sleeps with both his girlfriend's mom and his lawyer, this book is for you.

Highlights: His lawyer supplies him with copious amounts of opiates monthly, for free, to provide to his wife throughout the duration of her pregnancy
• He sleeps with his ex mere hours after marrying his pregnant sk*ank, without even showing in between
• He catches his wife having sex with one of her brothers while the other furiously plays with his jewels watching them
• He still stays with her
• He devises a plan with his sister to pour a massive amount of fentanyl in the wife's beer - remember, he's only staying with her so he can be a good father to the unborn child inside her (which could possibly be the spawn of one of her brothers')
• His girlfriends wife somehow rides him while he had overdosed, and he's able to "perform" while in that
• He repeatedly says horrific things about Black people, Hispanic people, and women
• The wife claims he raped her and yet she wants to stay with him
• He watches her gynecologist insert both hands inside his wife - with no gloves - for an extended period of time, and then gives her a prescription of opiates which he refills monthly
• His dad encourages him to murder her, and his mother and sister agree

.... there's so much more trash that it's mind boggling that I continued to listen to it but I wanted to hear then ending which is - literally - wife has curse-word filled tantrum tirade at her mother and is hauled out of the courtroom, the main character, who snuck a gun into the courtroom with the intent on shooting the judge, the wife and the wife's mother, and instead says "The End." and is over.

He actually says "The End."
