About this listen

Love wasn't supposed to be part of the bargain....

On every visit to Madame Delacroix's brothel, Nathaniel Travers requests the same man. Stunningly handsome and highly skilled, Jasper not only shares Nate's fondness for wickedly erotic games and black leather corsets, but he has become a trusted confidant. And Jasper's the only person who knows Nate longs for a committed relationship with his childhood friend, Peter Edmonton. Unrequited love hurts, but it hurts even more when the object of affection is in love with another.

Jasper Reed has been working at Delacroix's for a decade. He's saved enough to retire, yet he remains at the decadent London brothel. Leaving would mean leaving Nate and the hope that someday the rugged gentleman would stop pining for his best friend and realize he loves Jasper, just as Jasper loves him.

Edmonton's impending marriage looms before them, causing Jasper to take another look at his stubborn heart. Yet Jasper's a bastard whore, and Nate's the nephew of a viscount. Surely there can't be any hope for them....

Oh yes, another great historical romance from Ava March. This was not one of my favorites, but still really enjoyable. It is told from both MCs POV. Jasper works in a brothel ad Nate is a long time client. Jasper falls in love with Nate, but Nate is in love with his straight best friend. Not a new story, but in the time period and of this coming out could mean death. It is a sweet story of how Nate finally gets his head out of his ass and realizes what is right in front of him. The narrator does a wonderful with the accents of the period and brings this story to life. A really nice comfort read.

Sweet romance

This book was pretty good. I little short than I like, but it hit all the good points. I’m definitely considering reading or listening to another book by this author.

Pretty Good

Highly interesting and quite enjoyable. Well drawn characters go head to head in a love vs lust scenario

I am a huge fan of Ava March and this book was really great. I loved Jasper and Nate (when he finally got his head out of his ass) together. It's kinky and hot and I enjoyed every minute of it. The audiobook narrator, Charlie Belmont, did an excellent job as I am always a sucker for a British accent.

Sexy historical!

It was a pleasant story but it could have been much longer with more twists and turns.

MM romance, by Harlequin, so heavier on the romance and sex, lighter on the plot and realism, generally and this one follows suit. A little more detail about what the story entails in terms of things that may or may not appeal. The story has fairly explicit sex scenes in the beginning, sexual toys, small amount of cross dressing, very mild BDSM, spanking, scenes are vaguely interacted such as innocent maid to devilish rake, but nothing very detailed. It's fairly short, about 7-8 hours if I recall so the story isn't too fleshed out but, for the length, one gets a good sense of the characters, which are very appealing. Loved everything in the story, would've like a slightly longer story but it's still good.

Very sexy beginning, romance and strife in the middle, good ending

This was my first taste of Ava March and I enjoyed the listen, but all her books sound pretty similar. I don't know if I can stand the stubborn/in denial character repeatedly, but the role-play and corset was interesting, as was the historical perspective.

The narrator was ok, properly British. But the main characters pretty much sounded the same, but did convey emotion and added another dimension to the story.

Nice listen, but I wanted to shake Nate

Would you try another book from Ava March and/or Charlie Belmont?

I would definitely listen to another book by Charlie Belmont. He did a great job! His voice is probably why I made it as far as I did in the story. I also like Ava March, I loved her Brook Street series. I just thought that this story was too predictable and since it was more porn than story, I stopped listening to it.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Souffles at Sunrise by M.J. O'Shea and Anna Martin. It sounds like it will be funny and well as charming.

What does Charlie Belmont bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love Charlie Belmont's voice. He can make even a bad story, decent.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment, I usually really like Ava March's stories.

Way to Predictable!!

What would have made His Client better?

A different narrator, A different narrator would've made a world of difference. Sorry Charlie.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I don't know. I found them more engaging when Jasper was still a whore. After he retires it was like "okay what now?" I dont know it felt boring. Like would Nate really give up his life and career to live in the boonies?

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Charlie Belmont?

Have you listened to For Real by Alexis Hall? EITHER OF THOSE NARRATORS WOULDVE BEEN SWELL.

What character would you cut from His Client?

No one. There werent many extra characters.

Any additional comments?

I dont know. They didnt feel like they had enough substance to fall in love. The sex was hot as hell though. A plus for that. Also love for having a prostitute character who was a legit prostitute who slept with other people.

It was...alright?
