About this listen

After a teeny incident with red paint, my hometown votes that it’s done with my activist ways. Now I’m on an entirely different planet, holding a single suitcase, standing on a platform, waiting for my new alien husband to arrive in his vehicle.

I bite my lip as I wait because there’s one serious problem with this whole situation. After a best forgotten, one-night stand gone wrong, I’m three months pregnant and obviously this baby won’t be his.

My rancher husband parks his vehicle next to me, looking like Satan himself. I manage to not choke with fear. His dark, assessing gaze pauses at the slight swell of my stomach.

He inhales deeply and gives a curt nod. “Get in,” he orders. “Now you’re both mine.”

Oh my. I leap into the vehicle beside him. Because it turns out I have a thing for sweaty, bare chested, hard muscled men who breathe fire. Who knew?

Author’s Note: There is no cheating or OM drama. This can be listened to as a standalone within the larger Monsters Love Curvy Girls series but is best enjoyed directly after His Human Runaway (Thorn & Mica) and Her Alien Husband (Burl & Lucy). Only listen if you enjoy satanic-looking heroes and mouthy, curvy girl heroines.

Stella and Rake

This is a series that if you've missed the earlier books doesn't matter as each of the books is a total standalone so sit back and enjoy as you travel with Stalla to her new life with Rake on the planet Hyrrokin.

Stella is a strong rebellious woman who teaches school and fights for justice while living in a backward community on New Earth. When she discovers corruption at a high level she is framed for a crime and finds herself signed up as a mail-order bride without her knowledge or consent, The town leaders used her supposed crime and the fact that she's pregnant and single to do this.

When she lands on Hyrrokin she gets the first sight of Rake her soon-to-be husband and tells him what has happened and why she is there. Rake is a fair male and explains that she has one month to decide if she will become his "Bound" otherwise she will be returned to New Earth. Rake wants her to stay and to keep her and the baby she carries as his own so he asks her to give him that month so she can see what her life would be like and so he can hopefully get her to agree to stay with him.

She took the whole month, but she decided that they would "walk to the courthouse" and commit to each other. Her life on Hyrrokin is all she could have hoped for and she and Rake become a real couple. Her baby is due to be born during the planet's rainy season which means she and Rake will be alone and it will be down to him to deliver their child.

After the rainy season is over there is a large gathering to introduce their baby to their friends and family during which representatives of the Town Council who sent her to Hyrrokin arrive and try to get her to return to New Earth with them but she gives them short shrift.

The narration is well done by Neva Navarre and Patrick Zeller, both of whom make this an enjoyable listen.

A rebel finds her hero and home

Stella is considered a rebel because she protests the injustice of those who are taking advantages of those who are less fortunate. Unfortunately for her, the town she finds herself living in is a little backwards with their way of thinking. So in trying to get her out of their hair, they get her arrested and sign her up as a bride, finding her a husband on another planet. Luckily for Stella, Rake is her Hyrrokin husband and the moment he meets Stella, he knows she is his. He'll do what he needs to do to convince her to stay with him forever.

Love the narrators, they did a wonderful job bringing the characters to life. they both kept me engaged and chucking throughout this whole story.

This is definitely a great addition to this series. Every time I think I'm over the humans reaction to the Hyrrokin, I find myself giggling each time it happens. Michele Mills never disappoints with her books!

Good quick read!

I liked these two characters and the premise, but this was definitely a slow burn. I was a little frustrated with Stella being so up in her own head about her staying or not, but otherwise a cute couple and a great story!

good

The author is a good writer as usual. If you don't have children and aren't interested in having children this book may not be for you.
