Well researched but reads like a high school or freshman college history report. The narrative is choppy. Facts are stated but not elaborated on. Interesting but I couldn't get past the sloppy style.

The book is only okay from me.

This book was poorly written and didn't reach beyond commonly known facts. There were spelling and grammar mistakes throughout the book. Quotations were not properly cited. There is so much to learn about African-American history, but not from this book.

Only commonly known facts.

This is a terrific book that helps to explain some of the most powerful African Americans in our history.. The chapter about Harriet Tubman is fantastic! I love the way the author tells us a true story of her life and her struggle. The chapters are broken up very well and I could see this being used as a text book in an African American history class. This writer has a firm grasp on his history and his writing is exquisite.

This is a terrific book that helps to explain.....

I am an American and I needed to know more about the history of African Americans. It was really interesting to read about Rosa Parks, Malcom X (who was actually a gangster, who knew) and Martin Luther King.

The book is well written.
