Great guide!!!

It was helpful to review the past history, even though I had lived the revolution in the United States and remember it happening. I just didn't remember the sequence of events and this was a good review and background. I am sure more people will be going to Cuba now and this little primer is helpful to make what you see there mean more.

Easy to follow enjoyable

I have never had the opportunity to visit the island. I heard many, many stories growing up about Cuba, particularly Havana history and I was able to relate too much in the book.

tedious history

It will explain how Castro was so successful in overthrowing the corrupt government, ousting the mob, and most of all, why the people of Cuba back him and he is still their hero.

Amazing

The amount of detail was amazing. Very brutal, but sadly true. Too bad the Cubans were unable to successfully revolt and slay their enemies.

The History of Cuba

It also helped me place Cuba's complex relationship with the US in a larger historical perspective, from long before Castro. And it helped me understand (or at least speculate on) Cuba's current economic situation, seeing how dependent it had been on the US, on tourism, and on the sugar industry in the past.

Nice history

An Amazingly rich book about the incredible political and artistic history of a city that has long been the focus and conduit of all the revolutionary struggles of the Cuban people. Even if you have been there.

Great book

The author tells not only the history of organized crime in Cuba but also the political history of the island--how Batista staged a coup in 1952 and how Fidel Castro used the abuses of American corporations and the political corruption by the gangsters to foment revolution.

Interested But Dubious

I had very little background on Cuba and doubted that one audiobook would enrich me but I felt that I gained much need history as I listened to this interesting presentation.

Narration was horrible (not his fault)

It was really hard for me a spanish speaking Cuban American to follow all the names of places and people. The narrator needed to be a fluent Spanish speaker. This guy butcher all the names.
