The Ottoman Empire was one of the longest standing empires in the world. Started in 1299, the Ottomans would conquer much of the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeastern Europe. This classic by William Deans covers 600 years of Ottoman rule.

The narration of political history is great, although, heavily influences by European eyes. However the cultural and scientific narration is almost non existant, and presenta the Ottoman empire as barbaric and sub-human. This could not be further from the truth. I would recommend the book, under the warning of not listening to the unfair bashing the author lists against Ottoman culture.

I’ve listened to about 3 audio books a month for years and this narration was one of the worst. I knew nothing about the subject and I was eager to learn, but this narrator made me long for the book to end. It was like Siri was reading it if Siri had a fake accent.

Awful narration makes this book a chore

Lacks objectivity especially about Islam and its commandments and principles. Aside from that analysis bias, the details of the historical events are good, though.

I am disappointed by this book as the author’s point of view is nothing but to give Ottomans’ a title of savage, violent, and unruly. There is a limit to lies that the author talks about the Ottomans. The golden age of Ottomans rule during which all people including Jews enjoyed freedom and prosperity. I will not istemal to such brutal lies. Please don’t read this book if you sincerely wanting to Get true information.
