About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Laura Lippman has been hailed as one of the best crime fiction writers in America today, winning virtually every major award in the genre. The author of the enormously popular series featuring Baltimore P.I. Tess Monaghan as well as three critically lauded stand-alone novels, Lippman now turns her attention to short stories - and reveals another level of mastery.

In Femme Fatale, a chance encounter in a Starbucks introduces a 68-year-old widow to the world of fetish porn and to a way out of her money worries.

Editorial reviews

Part of the collection Hardly Knew Her, Honor Bar is an intriguing, tightly plotted story from award-winning crime writer Laura Lippman. Stage, screen, and voice actress Linda Edmond deftly performs the role of Bliss, a pretty and ruthless girl whose rich boyfriend unexpectedly dumps her on a three-week trip to Ireland. Edmond ratchets up the tension as Bliss takes control of the situation, tying her drunk ex-boyfriend to a bed and taking his credit cards to fund the rest of her vacation. But then Bliss meets another man and discovers he's using her for her money, leading her to make a shocking decision.

Critic reviews

"Lippman shows herself to be a master of short fiction....read them fast, like a glutton, or slowly to savor each one. Either way, this is a treasure." (Library Journal)
"Lippman fans won't be disappointed with these small treasures." (Kirkus Reviews)
