About this listen

In January 2024 I felt a clear invitation from God to process with Him through writing, every week, and share what I wrote through YWAM Virginia. The idea was not to create more content, but to consistently seek Him through written word. What He knew that I did not was that 2024 would be a difficult year, and I would need those weekly spaces to keep my eyes on Him rather than the hardship.

I often felt my weekly writings veered negative, and worried people may push back; instead, I would occasionally be affirmed by a reader who said the message was exactly what they needed at exactly the right time. This helped me to remain humble and transparent in what I wrote, and continue to seek the Spirit for inspiration and guidance.

As 2024 drew to a close, I felt a new invitation: it seemed God wanted me to compile these weekly writings into a book. Once again, the idea was not to create more content, but to use the editing process to explore what God may have been speaking through the year that I missed, forgot, or rejected. Not even two chapters in and I was convicted by my own words!

This book is my step of obedience to the God who brings hope amidst affliction, and I believe it could bring you hope as well. While the 52 reflections were not written to be connected, you will quickly notice the threads and themes woven by a creative, powerful, loving God as I tried to make it through the year. This same God is weaving in your life as well.

Whether you read this straight through, sit with one reflection a week, or jump around to different themes, my hope is that you will discover the God of hope just as I did... and continue to do.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
