Publisher's summary

Despite the human race's extraordinary capacity for invention and progress, we clearly have a millennia-old blind spot in one all-important area: We don't understand evil -- what it is, how it works, and why it so routinely and effortlessly ruins our lives. Put another way, we don't understand ourselves.

David Kupelian, the best-selling author of The Marketing of Evil, probes the ancient question of evil through a modern journalist's eye, once again demonstrating his uncanny knack for demystifying complex, elusive, and intimidating subjects with fresh insights into the hidden mechanisms of seduction, corruption, and power politics. Diving into today's most electrifying news stories -- from terrorism and school shootings to high-profile sex scandals and political dysfunction -- Kupelian explores such profoundly troubling questions as:

  • How does terrorism really work?
  • Why are New Age religions becoming so popular?
  • Why do so many celebrities who "have it all" -- talent, fame, good looks, wealth, adoration -- end up self-destructing?
  • Why are big lies more believable than little ones?
  • Why are boys doing worse in school today than girls?
  • Why do we treat mental, emotional, and spiritual problems, like anger and depression, with drugs?
  • Here's the good news: Once we really understand "how evil works" -- not just in the disasters and mega-crimes that dominate the headlines, but in our own lives as well -- evil actually loses much of its power over us, and the way out becomes more clear. Thus, How Evil Works bears a powerful message of genuine hope.

    Exceptional and compelling!

Exceptionally lucid and compelling study on understanding how evil works by an accomplished journalist. The audiobook reader was perfect for this book.

    Read and understand America's radicalization!

This book is a must-read if you want to understand how America has veered so far to the left. One read is not enough. I am fascinated with the author's depth of knowledge and how plainly the information is presented. Everything he writes will give you insight into the news you watch.

Required Reading for Every Concerned, Awakened Soul

While only conservatives will likely embrace many of his observations, I do believe it will still put a stone in the liberal minded shoe!

    Has the advantage of bluntness

Kupelian is to lauded for taking off the gloves in this work and exposing the purveyors of evil for who and what they are. Author falters by devoting a lot of ink to recitation of the evils afflicting America, as if anybody really needed to be reminded. I already knew what the evils are, I bought this book to better understand the root causes of and methods employed by evil personages.

    Good idea gone astray.

The beginning of this book is interesting and gives the impression of actually delving into the machinations of evildoing. After a few twists and turns however the author rather abruptly turns to rambling about people being nasty due to greed, the need for power and control etc. The book goes from being an unbiased research oriented look at behavior to an angry bible backed tirade of why sin and corruption are bad. Rather a disappointment, the author takes the promise of a great work and uses it to nag.

Disapointed on his naive view on 911

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

It could have been a great book, but his heavily invested view on 9/11 speaks of how ignorant in key issues he is in his "Anger, Conspiracy, And 9/11 Truth" article.

I agree with David J. Stewart as he calls him on that:

Kindly, Mr. Kupelian is either woefully ignorant or a highly paid liar! What he is really saying is that the Bush administration made some innocent mistakes, sincere blunders and it all just kind of happened, but there was no intentional plot by the Bush administration to blow-up the World Trade Center. LIES! LIES! LIES! Any person, even with a low IQ, can easily see that the three WTC buildings were bombed and imploded to the ground with professional explosives, by a professional team. Since it takes months to plant explosives for such a large undertaking, it would require access to the buildings in the months prior to 911. Look no further than young Bush brother, Marvin Bush, who headed an Electronics Security Company for the two years leading up to the September 11, 2001 attacks. There's your culprit! You couldn't make this stuff up!

    Anti Muslim propaganda!!

What would have made How Evil Works better?

I cannot believe I spent money on this so only thing I'd suggest is adding in the description here that the major theme of the book is how evil Islam is.

Would you ever listen to anything by David Kupelian again?

    Never.

What about Jon Gauger’s performance did you like?

Yes, it was very well read/performed - unless of course he only chooses propaganda books like these...

    How Awful

Why not just turn in to Fox "News" propaganda...this guy is doing nothing but spouting the same rabid blather. What a mistake to download this crappy book.
