About this listen
I show you my experiences selling 100,000 copies of my own children’s books to help you master:
- Social Media and Advertising
- Increasing Visibility
- Book Prices and Profits
- And Much More!
I left my job in 2018 because I made more money writing and self-publishing children's books (picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels) than working full time for someone else. I wanted to write books from home full time for years but was stuck in a life working for other people. Determined to change my life, I set out on a path to live the one I always imagined for my family.
I tell you my story in this book as if we were best friends standing face to face. I tell you my failures and my triumphs on the road to selling 100,000 children’s books. I tell it to you this way because I want you to succeed.
There’s no technical mumbo jumbo here – only real-life experiences that work!

On Becoming a Novelist contains the wisdom accumulated during John Gardner's distinguished twenty-year career as a fiction writer and creative writing teacher. With elegance, humor, and sophistication, Gardner describes the life of a working novelist; warns what needs to be guarded against, both from within the writer and from without; and predicts what the writer can reasonably expect and what, in general, he or she cannot.

The virtual voice is scary good. I’ve listened to human narrators who caused Super Mario snore bubbles blow through my nostrils.
David’s experience selling books is hybrid: inspiring while educational. He explains how to sell books without making it sound like a dull to-do list. For example, his wins and losses using billboards to better promote his Fox series is carried through a narrative of noticing James Patterson using this method and how he would be a fool not to.
Get this book. I believe it’s a free add to your library if you’re an Audible subscriber. If not, then make this a reason you get an Audible account.
Concise, to the point, with terrific anecdotes about his book publishing endeavors
