Publisher's summary

Failing as a husband or partner is a choice we make, often without even realizing it. Let me explain.

Having a successful relationship gives us companionship, a sense of security, and stability in life. You may have already tried the usual solutions: therapists, getting advice from that weirdly happy old married guy down the street, or maybe you even attended the dreaded weekend marriage encounter seminar. If those things worked and you don't need any more help with being a good husband, good for you. Go polish your unicorn horn, this book isn't for you.

Not failing requires two things: understanding why most relationships fail, and then doing the things in your relationship that successful husbands do that lead to them having long, fulfilled marriages. "How To Fail as a Husband" is filled with short, personal, often funny, and to-the-point chapters that each have one easily implemented act that is used by husbands who don't end up failing. What it's NOT filled with is questionnaires and worksheets to fill out. Just practical, everyday advice from people who've been there.

Congrats on starting down the road to not being a failure at this relationship thing!

Helpful, easy to listen to, and very applicable

Ward does a really good job with this. I just finished and have enjoyed every bit of it. It's got just enough light humor and examples from his own life to make it easy to listen to. I found his narration good, I kept it sped up a bit like I do with most books and his pace works great for that.
The material, though, was excellent. He went through a number of areas to help me work on my marriage. Some chapters would have been more helpful 20 or 30 years earlier in my marriage, but most of them still are things I work on today.
The most interesting thing was that I really think the book would be equally helpful for wives as well as husbands. There was one chapter toward the end that really was guy-centric, the rest was equally applicable. I understand he's only talking to guys because he is one and that's where he probably has the most credibility, but any wife who read the book would probably get as much out of it as her husband does.
All in all, I would strongly recommend this to any married man, the earlier in the marriage you read it the more impactful it would be over the long run, but at 30 years into my marriage I found this helpful.

Easy Listen & Great Content

I found listening to this book on Audible very enjoyable. The author's voice reading the book is very calming, impressive. His voice is professional yet relatable. The book does not claim to be a self-help for marriage counseling, but there is very simple truths and ideas on how to improve relationships and make your significant other feel important and loved by you. We all "fail as a husband" some of us more than others, but finding resources and ideas that we can implement at simple effort can surely help us in our quest to be the perfect mate. Just kidding, I will never be perfect. Thank you Dr. Eric Ward for your insight and ideas in helping us mongrels be more of a partner with our ladies.
