Here are just a few of the tips I wrote down. Repeat names often, both yours and theirs.
Find common ground and interests.
Be positive and kind to make a good first impression.
There is a whole chapter on reciprocity. Something as simple as holding a door open for a stranger will often cause them to want to reciprocate, They will at least say "thank you."
And the chapter on Gaining Trust is insightful. if you think about it, trust is the foundation of any meaningful relationship. Well-written, well-narrated.
