For anyone who struggles with social anxiety or just wants to feel more confident in conversations, the 10 steps are easy to follow, with real tips you can actually use. For example, how to start small talk, read body language (this one is so key), and recover from awkward moments, are helpful chapters. and I appreciated the chapter on inclusion. In general, the author seems to really get what it’s like to feel unsure in social settings. Perfect if you're holding back because of social anxiety but looking to level up your communication skills.

Transitioning from small talk to meaningful discussions can be daunting but it is totally doable. I liked the advice to talk about anecdotes at hand, such as talking about a movie you’ve both just seen, for example, and turning it into something like, “oh yeah, that movie reminded me of a road trip I recently took,” and go from there. This is a great way to keep conversations going and to also get to know someone in the meantime. It’s simple hacks that make this title super useful for just about anyone, even if they think they are a great communicator and conversation starter! I also really enjoyed the “creating a safe space” methods for creating more open and honest conversations-these were so helpful! Thank you Lorie Eubank for these discussion-hacks.
