Winning Is Everything

This book is good concerning the topic at hand. I have played weekly in Vegas for over 20 years. The author covers the basics. To win in the long term, one has to be very disciplined or you will face certain ruin.

Good Basic Strategy Mixed with Bad Math

The author explains the gamblers fallacy, but later jumps through different mental hoops to explain why he thinks that one machine could be more likely than another to produce a royal flush because it hasn't in a long time.

Hitting two Royal Flushes in a row is incredibly unlikely, but after you've hit the first, the second is just as likely to occur as it was the first time. Given 1,000,000 machines that "just hit a royal" and 1,000,000 machines that haven't hit a royal in a long time, both sets of machines will produce the same results.

The author seems to understand the accepted math, but then falls back on superstition and anecdotal experience. There are resources out there that can teach you game theory optimal strategy and this is not one.

It is a good listen if you're already interested in the topic and want an audiobook to listen to in the background or if you're just getting into video poker.
