About this listen
A beautiful book for dog lovers and anyone who's ever loved and lost an animal.
Get ready to laugh, cry, and fall in love with a very feisty little rescue dog called Nelson. Discover the heartwarming true story about his life with his unconventional human family and friends who are right there by his side during the good times and the bad, and love him come what may even when he misbehaves, which admittedly is most of the time.
This beautiful book, full of funny and touching memories that will make you smile through tears, is all about the very special bond between a dog and his beloved human family that not even death can break.
But is death really the end of his journey?
A funny and sad, silly and wise, bittersweet story of love and loss...and hope.

Story
Is bourbon the quintessential American liquor? Bourbon is not just alcohol - the amber-colored drink is deeply ingrained in American culture and tangled in American history. From the early days of raw corn liquor to the myriad distilleries that have proliferated around the country today, bourbon is a symbol of the United States. This course traces bourbon's entire history, from the 1700s, with Irish, Scottish, and French settlers setting up stills and making distilled spirits in the New World, through today's booming resurgence.

Wayne Farrell’s narration style captured Nelson’s character perfectly!
Having a book read to me is like being invited to dinner …the food always tastes better when someone else prepares it — and in this case, Nelson became more animated in my mind because I was listening and not reading (or doing the work, right)? Mr. Farrell’s narration style captured the essence of how Martina Mars wrote the antics of Nelson’s voice …the way SHE hears him — simply delightful!

Wonderful Book
This is such a wonderful book. I enjoyed listening to it being read to me even though I have read the ebook. Dogs have a way of letting you know what they want and how they feel. I could see my own dog who passed away 6 years ago doing some of the same things. It was just a wonderful story even if it brought tears more than once.

Loved This Story!
I loved this book! I highly recommend it. As a dog and cat owner, I related perfectly to this story. It was funny, engaging, and...well...I don't want to be THAT GUY...even though I'm not a guy.......to spoil a good thing. You will just have to read it yourself....and this book will not disappoint. I loved this story so much that I eagerly read the next two follow-on books, "I Am Nelson: What Happened Next" and "The Long Way Home", by Martina Mars. I must say, all three were great reads. I belong to a book club group and, as my turn came to pick a book for the group to read, I picked this book. Everyone loved it! Everyone also read the other two books and loved them too. There were several pages that made me laugh with the description of Nelson's antics and naughtiness along with the reactions and behaviors of several of the family members. Martina Mars' writing from Nelson's perspective is exactly what I would imagine a dog to be thinking as he goes about his daily life. The love and joy of an animal, in this case, a dog, is the most precious gift we humans can ever be lucky to receive. Paired with laughter and joy, unfortunately, we cannot escape sadness. Yes, there were sad moments but the passages that made me laugh and smile overshadowed everything else. This book also stirred all those wonderful memories of my dearly departed family members...I refuse to call them by that distasteful word "pets"......throughout my life. This story would make a great family movie! If you are looking for a good book to read that is not too short but not too long, this is your book. I opted for the audio version and, let me tell you, it was fantastic! The narrator's, Wayne Farrell, voice and inflection is exactly what I would imagine how Nelson would have sounded if a dog could talk. Well done all around. I hope I piqued your interest with my review and, as I'm sure Nelson might think, always remember Rule 1!

A Beautiful Story of Love Heartache and Tragedy
This is a "review copy" provided by the author.
That said I have purchased the kindle novel and have read that twice and still missed Ferdinand.
Dogs can communicate and will persist until you understand. You will miss them forever. I miss even my neighbor's dogs to this day and remember their names and not my neighbors. Hi Jake Hi Mosbey Hi Red and especially Blackie and LADY and many more. You will gain insight to the mesmerizing psyche of animals.
