The heartwarming memoir from beloved, award-winning television actress Valerie Harper.

Valerie Harper is finally ready to tell her story. In this, her first memoir, the beloved and award-winning television actress reflects on the role that made her famous -Rhoda Morgenstern on the groundbreaking series The Mary Tyler Moore Show and on the spin-off show Rhoda - and the pressures of helming her own sitcom, Valerie. From her childhood in New Jersey and upstate New York to the beginnings of her acting career as a dancer and chorus girl on Broadway - performing alongside stars like Lucille Ball and Jackie Gleason - to her recent battle with lung cancer, Valerie shares the story of her life, both the highs and the lows, in this heartwarming memoir, filled with charming anecdotes about Betty, Lucy, and Mary, to name a few.

Enjoyable

This audio book was very enjoyable. I had no idea that Miss Harper was in the chorus of many Broadway shows. The behind the scenes at the Mary Tyler Moore Show from audition to end was fascinating too. I recommend this book.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed getting to know Valerie. I had no idea about her stage career nor her community activism. I found her inspiring. There were some parts that dragged on a bit but overall I enjoyed this.

Touching and funny

A gloriously positive look into the life and career of a beloved actress. She is famous for playing Mary’s best friend on the Mary Tyler Moore Show, but with the sweet and funny personality shared in this book you will wish she was your best friend as well.

What an Amazing Life!

One of the most interesting and comprehensive memoirs that I've come across in my many readings.

Quite a behind-the-scenes look at the Rhoda era and the many successes beyond her initial hit show.

Have you listened to any of Valerie Harper’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Wonderful, warm and genuine performance.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

My Friend, Rhoda

Any additional comments?

The latest medical news surrounding Valarie Harper broke just as I was finishing this audiobook. As I listened, enjoying every moment, I was amazed by the depth of her career and her love and affection for many friends and family. Her show "Rhoda" was a TV sensation, but she has done so much more since then, including a life filled with passion and care for those less fortunate. The depth of her sharing goes way beyond most bios. Her anecdotes made me laugh and her honesty and emotional stories renewed my love for the woman we knew as Rhoda. Bless you Valarie!

Just wonderful

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I learned about Valerie and her famous Rhoda from Kathy Griffin's book (which is so good!). I had never seen Mary Tyler's show or Rhoda. I loved Valerie's story. It's very interesting and inspiring. Unlike Kathy's book, this book is not packed with jokes, it's just interesting to hear about someone trying so hard to get what they wanted. Her perseverance and her extremely positive attitude towards everything in her life are very admirable. It did make me regret not knowing abut her when she performed in so many wonderful plays. I would have loved to watch her in "Looped" or "The Tale of the Allergist's wife"

What was one of the most memorable moments of I, Rhoda?

When she gets the part for Rhoda

Which scene was your favorite?

Too many to mention

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Way Too Nice

Loved her as Rhoda. But with all the attention of that, and then all the other major things she experienced in her vast life and career, almost everyone and everything is presented as being lovely, beautiful, delightful. I wanted to know more about her real feelings about tough times and difficult people.
