About this listen
I don’t want to be here. That’s the thought that leads to stress and anxiety at work and home, and it's been overstepping its bounds, standing in the way of the life you want to live. I Want to Be Here uncovers the source of our stress and anxiety, presents the key to its defeat, and shares a method for creating lasting change. The story is told from the perspective of a senior leader in the technology industry, husband, and father, who conquered the anxiety that landed him in the emergency room. In the book, new connections from neuroscience and psychotherapy combine with compelling stories to change your perspective and give you the tools needed to overcome anxiety, live with presence, and reach your full potential.

A Must-Read Masterpiece of Vulnerability, Balance, and Presence
Listening to the audio version of I Want to Be Here is like sitting down with a thoughtful peer who's finally ready to tell you the raw, unfiltered truth — not just about life, but about what it means to actually live it. The audiobook version brings an added layer of intimacy, making Joe's vulnerability even more palpable and powerful. You can hear the authenticity in every word, the hard-earned insight in every pause, and the courage it took to tell his story.
What makes this book stand out is not just the personal narrative, but the way it blends storytelling with deeply applicable life lessons. Through Joe's journey, we’re invited to examine our own—especially how we’ve been conditioned to chase productivity, perfection, and external validation at the expense of our own peace.
At its core, I Want to Be Here teaches us that a sustainable lifestyle isn't just about burnout prevention—it’s about learning to stay with ourselves, to stop running, and to create a rhythm of life that supports both ambition and inner stillness. This book doesn’t preach or prescribe; it reveals. And in doing so, it opens a door for all of us to walk through—toward greater balance, deeper mental health, and true, grounded success.

Fusion of Mindset, Diet, and Habit
Joe shares honest and valuable insights on managing stress and anxiety by shifting from negative to positive thinking. This simple mindset shift helped him become a better father, husband, and coworker. He also applied this approach to successfully build lasting healthy habit - transitioning from unhealthy eating to enjoying nutritious foods. I really appreciate the idea of combining mental resilience with a healthy diet and habit-building. I hope you check it out so that you not only achieve wellness but also reach an even higher state of flow.

A fabulous guide to pause, reflect, and transform
I really enjoyed this book—it offers thoughtful, engaging insights into how the brain works and how we can better understand ourselves: our thoughts, emotions, and the actions that stem from them. It gives you a practical toolkit to shape your experiences into what you want them to be. The analogies are spot-on, and the techniques Joe shares are easy to apply in everyday life. Great read for anyone!

Great listen- helpful strategies for dealing with stress and anxiety.
The author does a good job of mixing strategies to deal with stress and anxiety with personal stories, and historical events and figures. The delivery was clear and clean. After listening to this I feel inspired to make some changes in my routine and I have a feeling I will be re-listening this every year to help reinforce these healthy habits.
