About this listen

A kiss at the Netherfield Ball....

As Charles Bingley and Fitzwilliam Darcy prepare for the Netherfield Ball, a gentlemen’s challenge develops between them to secure their future happiness...with the two eldest Bennet sisters! But when things do not go as expected for Mr. Darcy, Hertfordshire society is in an uproar over the pursuit of one of their favorite daughters by such a wealthy gentleman.

Despite being claimed by Mr. Darcy as his future bride, Elizabeth Bennet has no plans to wed the proud and disdainful Mr. Darcy, no matter what her father says! At her sister’s urging, she agrees to give him a chance, if only for Jane’s sake. But there are others with an interest in breaking a match between Fitzwilliam Darcy and some country miss....

The stakes are high and romance strong as two of Jane Austen’s most beloved characters dare to declare their feelings, dare to defy family, and dare to trust each other!

If Mr. Darcy Dared is a steamy romance for fans of Elizabeth Ann West’s other works, especially those listeners who love their drama cranked to a 10!

Scandal and Scandalous behavior

Other than his stuffy behavior at the assembly there isn’t much of the usual misunderstandings to overcome in this story.

We do see a remnant of Wickam, but Georgiana was already rescued prior to her elopement without much harm and Lydia is saved from him as well. In fact, it might be said that he needed saving from Lydia and her plans. This series of events is one of the occasions when the story gets a little convoluted or contrived in order to resolve an issue from canon.

There are scandals, but they involve ODC and their behavior starting at the Netherfield Ball, and it gets worse from there.

They often find themselves run away with their feelings in front of others, causing uproar and scandal from Merton to London.

It’s just a very good thing that the neighbors don’t know what they really get up to when they find some time alone. Whew! Very MATURE content. These two need to marry and quick!

** It’s kind of strange hearing him referred to as Mr. Darcy in the narrative while he is doing things that make Lizzy cry out his name**

Not a fan of the narrators choice of voice characterizations, or cadence, but I’ve heard worse narrators.

Not my favorite

I love EAW books. She is a must buy for me. Consequently. I own all of her books. I am kicking myself a bit because though I enjoy the books, I don't love the narration. that being said, this is one of my least favorite books. I don't mind the sex scenes - I just FF through them. For me, this story just had an odd pace and some inconsistent behavior.

Great Story - Voices Need Help

Loved this book! The story is very different from other variations which is what makes it such a fun read. The only disappointment were some of the male voices, in particular Darcy’s voice. It made him sound like an elderly man in his 80’s or 90’s. Not very sexy given the “R” rated content.

Good story, problematic reading

This story was nicely done and enjoyable to listen to however I really did not care for the narrator's version of Darcy's speech. She made him sound like a very old man which disrupts the vision in your mind of a handsome hero of the story. Makes the romance and intimate scenes almost creepy when audibly it sounds like a young girl and old man.
The story itself was well done and having read it, I enjoyed reading rather than listening to this particular story.

Good

A fun reimagining of pride and prejudice. I would recommend this one. It doesn't stick to much to the original.
