La prima inchiesta, in ordine di tempo (1935) del popolare commissario della Mobile milanese che possiede grandi capacità deduttive e intuitive ma principalmente si manifesta come un uomo assetato di giustizia. Sempre pronto a ripudiare i metodi tradizionali della polizia, ricorrendo a stratagemmi (non sempre corretti...) per smascherare il colpevole. Carlo De Vincenzi diverrà un personaggio seriale molto amato.
