Quest'ultimo era triste non sapendo che farsene del gatto per il fatto di essere molto povero, ma il gatto gli disse: "Fidati di me, portami un cappello, un paio di stivali e un sacco e farò di te un uomo ricco".
Il giovane, che tanto non aveva nulla da perdere, si procurò il necessario. Il gatto, indossati gli stivali e il cappello, andò nel bosco, catturò della selvaggina e la portò al re, dicendo che fosse un dono del suo padrone, che era il marchese di Carabas. Il gatto continuò a portare i doni al re finché un giorno udì...
