È così che Emanuele Fiano, oggi deputato del Partito democratico, in prima linea, da sempre, contro i rigurgiti del neofascismo e dell'antisemitismo, tratteggia in poche parole il senso di questo sentito memoriale. La storia della sua famiglia è segnata dalla tragedia degli scomparsi e dal dolore e dal ricordo dei vivi. Tra Nedo, il padre sopravvissuto ai campi di concentramento, ed Emanuele, il figlio "politico", viene alla luce un rapporto fatto di silenzi, odori e mistero, tenerezze reciproche e scoperte rivelatorie. Il profumo di mio padre è il tentativo di un passaggio di consegne di una memoria preziosa e indimenticabile e una riflessione attualissima sul male e sugli orrori del passato; e, allo stesso tempo, un esempio di come si possa trasformare la catastrofe in un messaggio straordinariamente educativo per le generazioni future, come è accaduto con i libri di Liliana Segre e Primo Levi.
