Publisher's summary

As the biggest criminal trial since the Boston Strangler draws nearer, the public’s fascination with the life and crimes of mob boss Whitey Bulger continues to heat up. Many stories have been told about the murders Whitey and Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi committed, and the tacit permission they received from the FBI.

But never before has the story been told from the point of view of one of the victim’s families - until now.

Impact Statement is the first book to provide background into the family of a victim and their own compelling history and experiences, their decades-old fight for justice, the momentous victory over the US government, and their angry quest for the closure that Bulger’s trial may provide.

Author Bob Halloran will have front-row access to the trial and the ensuing media blitz, as he observes the trial alongside Steven F. Davis, perhaps the most outspoken advocate for the victims’ families. The murder of Davis’s sister, Debbie, is what keeps Flemmi jailed to this day, and remains the most horrific and arbitrary killing committed by Bulger and Flemmi.

Steven Davis’s colorful commentary and reflective admissions of his own criminal past will reveal how he was once a protg of Flemmi’s, and how the Davis family’s longstanding relationship with Flemmi cost them a father, two sisters, and a brother. Such is the devastating impact Bulger and Flemmi’s violence had not only on their own families, but many others as well.

Sympathy For the David Family

I met Steven Davis a few times through connections of friends with his oldest daughter. He is a very nice and fun person to be around, but I don’t know home that well. I had no idea about his connection to Flemmi and Bulger till a friend told me about it. I did not realize the depth of it beyond Debbie and my heart goes out to him and his family. This book goes into all the details and is an amazing, but tragic story. Of all the Bulger books, this one is most real because it focuses on the victims, not the perpetrators. It shows the true cost and devastation when criminals run free and when law enforcement is corrupt. When they are basically one in the same. Definitely read this book. It sticks with you and removes the lure and romanticism of gangsters. Something that is too common in America today. I just hope the Davis family gets justice and can heal from so much tragedy. Tragedy they never deserved or did anything to warrant. It’s an amazing and heartfelt story that will stick with you long after your done reading it.

Outstanding!

Outstanding, and accurate! I plan to listen to it a second time. God bless the families involved in all this horror, and may the souls of the departed rest peacefully.

Sn excellent first hand accounting

Sn excellent first-hand accounting of what is a very complex and long-running crime of mass murder, FBI complicity, Deep familial grief and a scathing expose' of life in Southy in the 60's, 70's and 80's.
As a wise man said; "no one is clean in the matter," but what is clear after listening to this excellently narrated book, some are much cleaner and more innocent than others. Bulger and his crew are/were, the most subhuman evil, satanic, monsters this country has ever witnessed. Yet, while criminals commit crimes, the FBI committed and were complicit in not only all the same crimes, but also the higher crime of TREASON. There's a reason why there is no moratorium on the death penalties for TRAITORS.

Sad also, is the fact that our legal system is packed full of traitors and sympathizers of varying degrees. Its why the Winter Hill boys felt untouchable in the first place, and it's why the DOJ and FBI are the greater evildoers and deserved to die for their crimes with all the families who lost loved ones due to that US Government GUILT, present to watch.

Because this will never happen, we wait on our Just Creator to make them all atone. We fight evil in high places, systems and municipalities. There we find the "highest" evil, coming always, in the name of Light/Good. I say F- - - THOSE "SWORN" ENEMIES OF GOD AND MAN! They still rule the world and their time is now, but soon to END. . .badly

Excellent!

I love the way the victims are remembered, and talked about. This book wasn’t for the monster, it was for the victims. 10 out of 10!

More chronology than story

Repetetively reciting different, but similar, names sentence after sentence for the first three-quarters of the book made me zone-out. Got to the point of noise versus story.
