Scholarship student Thracius "Tracy" Belmanor and Princess Mercedes de Arango have graduated from the High Ground and become officers in the Orden de la Estrella. This book starts at graduation from the High Ground Academy. The story examines the moral ambiguity of allowing a mass murder of children to be "ignored" in the interest of preventing an inter-species war. Mercedes is slowly losing her soul as she grows into the role of Le Infanta and Tracy, stubborn and priggish, suffers dearly for his principles. The book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger promising much more to come. Can hardly wait.

This second journey into this complex and interesting universe was a very satisfying listen. The characters evolve nice and not necessarily how you might guess they will. Deep ties are discovered and mystery develop. Very much looking forward to the third installment of this wonderful series.
