About this listen

In Search Of Black History with Bonnie Greer brings you face-to-face with the people you never knew existed. People whose stories tell us a different tale about who we all are. From the earliest glimmerings of modern humanity, up to the present day, Bonnie Greer uncovers the lives of people of African descent that don’t fit with the accepted history of Western Civilisation we’ve traditionally been taught. From saints, to philosophers, to warrior women and king’s heralds - these people’s lives have been lost, hidden and distorted down the centuries. We’ve lost the full richness and complexity of our shared histories - it’s time to fill in the gaps.

In this eight part series, playwright and former Trustee of the British Museum, Bonnie Greer, travels with us through the ages, meeting the academics and experts who are uncovering these stories at the cutting edge of historical research, and she brings their subjects’ lives to life - with an imaginative re-telling of their stories.

Well this may not be my favorite book by Malcolm Gladwell, it is undoubtedly my favorite audiobook. The idea of producing an audiobook in the format of a podcast was groundbreaking. I’m sure Gladwell is not the first to do so but it is the first that I have had the pleasure of enjoying.

Any fan of Gladwell’s podcast Revisionist History would certainly enjoy this book.

A different kind of Gladwell

I absolutely loved this title because it was honest and informative. I highly recommend everyone, regardless of their ancestral background get this. I would also strongly state that those of African ancestry should not dare miss out on this experience!

Excellent African history lesson!

A very emotional, though not very in depth history of a few black people scattered around ancient Europe. Would love to edit it down to around 10 minutes.

Colonial History of a couple of people

A great story about Back History that many of us including me, have never heard. It left me wondering, why had I not heard or learned about these people!
What else has been left out of our American and World history books?

This is history the entire world needs to know.
Bonnie Greer creates a story, at times a full on reenactment, of history. Of a history so so few have ever heard.
The history of Africa has been written by its oppressors. This series aims to change right that wrong.

An engaging story of black history

Bonnie Greer is fantastic as are all of her interviewees. The information presented in this mini series is fascinating and of the utmost importance. These histories need to be told and studied in pre-k to college. They need to be explored in all types of media and art. Grateful to have learned so much.

Excellent must listen
