Publisher's summary

If you had the chance to live forever, would you take it?

It's 2053: An old man, Viktor Erikson, lies on his deathbed. Alone and with no known relatives, he is tended to by Olivia, a nurse. He has only one request: that she reads to him.

The request is not unusual, but the battered, leather-bound tome she must read is no ordinary book. Written in 1839, it chronicles the discovery of the fountain of youth by Morgana de la Motte - and Viktor Erikson.

What starts off as a swashbuckling adventure on the high seas in search of riches and eternal life soon transforms into something quite different: a clash between two personalities bound by love and deceit, locked together by a terrible burden of necessity.

What lengths would you go to - and what price would you pay?

As Oliva reads through the ancient book, she discovers a quest for truth and meaning as Viktor and Morgana relive the greatest sufferings and sorrows of humanity, over and over again.

In such a timeless loop, can Viktor or Morgan save their own true selves? Or will their unstable alliance, forged on the fine line between love and hate, turn into a tangled web of deception?

Insensible Loss is a dark historical thriller, breathlessly following Viktor and Morgana through a centuries-long adventure. Switching between the present and the past, Peters’ masterful storytelling make this fast-paced, imaginative epic a bold exploration of a past spiraling out of control - and a future that has never been more uncertain.

Unique, powerful and scary story of immortality

Wow, where to begin. This book has so many unexpected twists and turns as it lays out a tale of a fountain of youth and the impact that potential immortality has on a man and a truly evil woman. You do not know what to expect as the their story unfolds over the decades into the "present" (year 2053). There is action, drama and suspense galore as they use the water to reset their lives and at times the lives of unsuspecting adversaries to infancy again. I was surprised and satisfied with the ending as well. The narration was good and the different accents were well done. The theme of immortality leaves the listener a lot to ponder. What would you do with this gift (or curse)?

Don't lose this book

I really enjoy this book, it's not my normal type of story- I prefer murder mysteries but this book had me hooked from the start. With so many twists and turns in the story it kept me listening until the end as you never knew quite what was going to happen next it where the chapter would lead. It also had a villain that everybody loves to hate.
The unusual plot is about an expedition of a group of sailors and scientist on the hunt for the fountain of youth and the perils and consequences of finding it. The story is told to a dying man by a nurses aid who is reading him a book found in his procession and recounts an eventful life though the ages.
I narrator was very good and had a nice way of speaking each part.

An Immortality Fantasy ... or Is It?

A young nurse gets caught up in the story when an elderly hit-and-run victim asks her to read a book to him.
Suspense, historical settings, great character and world-building and the always enticing challenge of how much is real.
Well written and a most enjoyable read.

Great storytelling here

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a surprisingly good historical fantasy story. The fantasy element, of course, is the fountain of youth and immortality. I really liked the stories of Viktor and Morgana and the psychology around living forever. I thought the story was very well written and the narration is very engaging. All in all, this was a great listen and one I would recommend to just about anyone looking for a good story.

Unique and interesting story with great narration

I had to restart this book after the first couple of chapters because I didn't understand what was going on. I'm so glad I did. This is a very different story about the fountain of youth and immortality. The characters are able to start life over again and again but they have all of their memories intact. Very interesting. the narration was excellent. I loved it and I will absolutely read other books by this author. I would absolutely recommend this book.

Didn't see it coming

Good insight on the difficulties one would possibly face if the myth was true. The switching between the present and reading of the book was tied in very well. As it went along I thought i could tell how it was all going to wrap up and while I was in the ballpark it still managed to suprise me as it went.

Unique story of immortality and morals

I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I thought the first few chapters were kind of slow but once it got rolling I couldn't stop. Would you take immortality if it was offered? The catch is is that you have to start over again as a baby but at least you get to keep your memories. That's the basis of this story. A couple that live through history together alternating raising/loving each other. A very unique take on immortality. This book is full of twist so I don't want to spoil anything here, it is also a fast read. I recommend it if you love immortality and morality stories or if you like sci-fi but not spacey sci-fi.
