 It is said that the Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri began in the Edo period as a festival for praying for a good harvest. 日本の祭りの中で、特に荒々しいものの一つとして有名なのが、毎年9月と10月に大阪府の岸和田で行われる、岸和田だんじり祭です。
岸和田だんじり祭は、江戸時代に、豊作を願って始まった祭りが起源といわれています。
この祭りは、男衆が「だんじり」と呼ばれる山車を勢いよく曳きながら、市内を駆け抜けることで知られます。
特に、スピードの乗っただんじりとともに、男衆が曲がり角に突入する「やりまわし」はド迫力。
だんじりは大きいもので高さ約4ｍ、重さ4トンにも達します。狭い道では猛烈な速さのだんじりがぶつかって家屋が壊れることも多いため、多くの町内会が祭りに備えて「だんじり保険」を掛けているそうです。©2017 KODANSHA English Language Learning
