 Gagaku is a traditional Japanese art form which combines singing and dancing elements from classical Japanese styles such as kagura (shinto music and dancing) with elements from the ancient Asian continent such as from China.

雅楽は、神楽など日本古来の歌舞と、中国などの古代アジア大陸から伝わった楽舞が融合して誕生した、日本の伝統芸能です。
雅楽は、楽器を合奏する音楽だけの管弦と、音楽に舞が伴う舞楽の2つに大きく分かれます。
平安貴族たちが完成させた雅楽は、日本最古の音楽といわれ、〝世界最古のオーケストラ とも呼ばれます。
雅楽は、皇室に保護されながら現在まで受け継がれてきました。現在でも宮中の儀式や宴などの行事のほか、神社での結婚式や神事などでも演奏されます。
雅楽では篳篥や鉦鼓、琵琶、笙など独特な楽器が使用され、宮内庁には専門の楽師たちがいます。
