The first part is slow, but cranks up to epic

This is another really good story. Maybe the first quarter of the book is character development and 'kinda' slow, but it is necessary for the great SciFi that comes next in the rest of the book. The setting is that of the naval style of operation in space, which likely comes from the author's background. Relatable characters and a generally realistic set of political differences make the book fit today's world of good guys and bad actors. In any case, the story moves along fast and I discovered that paying close attention was absolutely necessary. I found myself listening again to make sure I did not miss something. I can't wait to see what happens next.

As I've said in an earlier review, this is great hard core SciFi. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was due to the need for me to pay such close attention and occasionally rewind.
