About this listen

Standing above the dramatic arches underpinning the Basilica of Assisi and carried away by the beauty of the moment, Joan and Roger were determined to move to Italy. It took time, effort, grit, money, heavy doses of humor, and even stronger servings of Italian pazienza; but in the end, move they did. Launching a new career hosting vacationers, they persevered, renovating Le Vigne; an old farmhouse. This is their story of good fortune, at times matched in equal measure with frustration. They made their dream come true. Here are their Italian lessons.

This was an extremely detailed account of one couples decision to move to Italy and at times it was too detailed! I appreciated the honest account and as a result, I would never want to go through all this couple went through. So the book does not invoke the desire to make you want to move to Italy but rather just visit. I struggled with the narrators voice because she sounded robotic at times and I actually thought she was the voice of Siri (yes iPhone Siri)! Also I'm sure Roger is a great guy but he came across as a bit of a prima donna. It's Rogers world and Joan is lucky enough to live in it and she seems content with that. I'd recommend this book if your contemplating moving to Italy and opening a bed and breakfast!

A painful, detailed account of buying a house in Italy.

There is no story here, at all. It's a painful, overly detailed about every house they saw on a house hunt in Italy. I've been listening for house and they haven't even found a house t
