A great Australian yarn about a bold Australian outback adventure belonging to another time in another world, inspired by a true story. The happy routine life of two Perth boys is shattered one November day in 1950 when they are falsely accused of theft. With fabricated evidence mounting against them they decide to run away from their homes and families to avoid prosecution and pooling their meager pocket money they back the winner of the Melbourne Cup and fund an escape.©2005 Tony McKenna and Mervyn Davis (P)2009 Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd Fiction Historical Fiction Literature & Fiction

Editorial reviews

Jack & Harry: No Turning Back, narrated in clear and empathetic tones by Australian David Tredinnick, is a rollicking adventure tale, set in Perth in 1950, about two young well-adjusted boys who are falsely accused of stealing. Blowing their plight out of proportion to the supposed crime at hand, the two impulsively flee town, getting the cash to do so from a wild and well-placed bet, and begin an exciting, difficult, and epic madcap journey across the Great Outback.

A fun coming-of-age story and lively road trip tale.

Critic reviews

"David Tredinnick is nothing short of outstanding as the boys travel, meeting a happy-go-lucky Irishman, a soft-spoken priest, an older Aborigine man and his nephew, and many others. Each voice for more than a dozen unique characters sounds perfectly distinct.... It’s an exciting trip for the boys and for listeners, as well, as the two mates discover the true definition of home." This is an entirely charming and engaging little story about two young boys' coming of age. The story may be simple, but the narration, story, and characters make it a very worthwhile addition to your library. Additionally, it is a wonderful listen that will make you smile and feel good.

well worth the credit. great for kids, great for adults. no swear words or other stuff that would inhibit a 10 year old from enjoying it, while being well written enough to keep adults engaged.

awesome story

I listened to this to verify it was ok for kids. Often Audible kids books are not appropriate in my opinion. Some good lessons but nothing too deep, just a fun adventure of some young boys. My boys love to listen to this one on road trips. Narrator has a fun Australian accent.

A favorite of Dad and the boys
