About this listen
A sweet and inspirational Western romance from USA Today Bestselling Author Jennifer Beckstrand
Jessie Madsen has her hands full helping her parents run their small farm and boarding house while every fortune-seeker in the country seems to be flocking to her small town in search of gold. It’s bad enough that claim jumpers won’t quit trespassing on her property, but geologist James Kelsey, mildly intriguing and surprisingly handsome for an Easterner, seems more interested in her than the mining business. Jessie is certain she doesn’t have the time or the need for a man, and after getting her heart broken, she has resolved never to fall for an outsider again. Add stolen cash, a fast-talking con man, and a pair of bandits, and Jessie is indeed up to her eyeballs in trouble. Will she soften her rock-hard exterior and let the geologist discover the hidden treasure in her heart?
Maggie Murphy has been away from home too long, and her brother Charlie has made a mess of the family’s ranch and the family’s reputation. Max Welling, the cowboy who saves Maggie from a band of trail robbers, doesn’t even know her, and he already hates her guts. When Charlie kidnaps three small children, Maggie realizes how deep her brother’s treachery runs, and she vows to stop Charlie before more innocent people get hurt. But Maggie is just one woman, and Charlie has forty gunslinging cowboys at his command. Can Maggie swallow her pride long enough to ask Max Welling for help? Can Max let go of his hatred for the Murphys long enough to help Maggie right a horrible wrong? Will either of them be able to look past their differences and find space for love?
“In Jessie and James, Beckstrand once again proves what a talented author she is – and that she was made for writing westerns as well as her usual Amish fiction. Seamlessly weaving wit and emotion alongside a bit of adventure and meaningful insight, the author also introduces multi-dimensional characters that I hope we see again! You’ll laugh and swoon, for sure, and you may even get a bit tearful as you devour Jessie and James from start to finish.” Reading Is My Superpower blog review of Jessie and James
"The author has done a wonderful job with this. It captured my attention from the beginning and I was eager to see what would happen to this mismatched pair. The characters seemed real and were easy to imagine. Humor, mystery, faith, and romance were all woven together into one magnificent novel. I would highly recommend this book." Cute story
I liked the story. But it has much less humor than other Beckstrand books. The virtual voice wasn’t my favorite but was better than expected.

Just ok
The story was ok, although not one of Ms Beckstrand’s usual great books. But the AI narration is horrible.
