About this listen

For over 40 years, Bloom's been kicked around by the hard knocks of life. Events cascade into chaos as she tries to help her friends survive the infrastructure collapse. Polite society experiences a massive correction. Struggling through violent clashes and heartbreaking decisions, the small group grows strong bonds as they work together to hold on to their food, guns, and property as the government reaches in to take what they want by granting themselves ever-increasing authority.

Individuals quickly reprioritize their loyalties, as the political elite focus on micromanaging the population. While some people look toward liberty for the future, others decide to take full advantage of the anarchy by feeding off people's adversity. Either way, only the strong can survive. There are no handouts left.

Not your standard prepper fiction.

I would have rated it lower but I have an irrational reaction to pot use. Also the narrator was like fingernails on a chalk board to me. This isn’t the usual prepper fiction and in that way it’s quite good. It also doesn’t use the EMP to start the end of the world so that’s good.

The story has a lot more character development that your average end of the world fiction. There is a predictable love story between the old people. I think a lot of the book is from the female prospective and that’s a needed thing.

It doesn’t get to be too full of lists like a lot of prepper fiction does so that's good.

She gets way preachy about several topics.

High Fructose Corn Syrup – it’s just sugar, too much of it will make you fat. It doesn’t taste as good as the real stuff either.

GMO crops – here’s where she really comes off the rails. GMO is really no different than hybrid crops that have been around forever. The bans other countries put on it have more to do with protecting local farmers and commodity prices or other trade issues than anything else.

It goes on, and on and on and on and on and on. Oh and it does go on a bit.

There is one hysterical firearms error in the book. She speaks of shooting a 1” group at 500 yards. If you’re a gun person you get it if not it won’t matter to you.

It’s not a bad book and it’s different than other prepper stuff out there. I’ll probably get the next one.

If you Love Glenn Beck and Doomsday Preppers......

What was most disappointing about Kelli Otting’s story?

Can't believe somebody published it!

Any additional comments?

I’m pretty sure this author has been hitting people over the head with her politics for years, the kind of person that traps you in a corner at a party and drones on for hours. Please don’t waste your time on this mindless dribble.
