About this listen

"There can be no holiness without resistance to the great deceiver who opposes it." - A.W. Tozer

Are you yearning to grow in holy devotion and Christlikeness? "John Wesley on Holiness," authored by Ruth Conlon, delves into the enduring and transformative vision of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, whose teachings on sanctification have spurred a spiritual revival that reshaped 18th-century England and continues to inspire millions globally. In this meticulously crafted volume, Ruth articulates how Wesley’s calls for a life of personal and social holiness can address the modern challenges faced by contemporary Christians.

With scholarly precision and pastoral sensitivity, Ruth explores the foundational aspects of Wesley’s theology—grace, faith, and sanctification—while illustrating their profound implications for daily living and spiritual maturity. She invites readers to transcend superficial religious observance through a robust engagement with Wesley’s methods, such as the disciplined pursuit of the Means of Grace and the quest for Christian Perfection.

- Understand Historical and Biblical Perspectives
- Apply Holiness to Contemporary Life

This book was clicking along just fine until the author decided to reinterpret John Wesley in light of modern driftings of some camps within Christianity. Musings that Wesley would likely approve of various egalitarian positions or inuendos that he would are the exact sort of speculation that does not belong in a summarization of Wesley's teachings on holiness. I was very disappointed with this aspect of the reading. People do not pick up a book on John Wesley to hear your 21st century interpretive musings about what you believe he would say if he were alive today. Also, way too many reading of bibliographies at the end of each chapter. Some of the questions were well placed and provoking and the reading was pleasant to listen to.

Fairly well done reading, but not faithful
