Eine fast dreißigjährige Freundschaft verband Soma Morgenstern mit Joseph Roth: Die Erinnerungen beginnen im Jahr 1909 im damaligen Lemberg und enden 1939 mit Roths Begräbnis. Die Freunde stammen beide aus Galizien, waren Journalisten und Schriftsteller in Wien, wurden als Juden verfolgt und sind nach Paris emigriert. Der Hauptteil des Hörbuches umfasst diese gemeinsame letzte Zeit in den Jahren 1938/39.
