About this listen

A classic fable from Rudyard Kipling's Just So Stories, read by Johnny Morris.

Have you ever wondered how and why the animals came to be as they are? In these magical tales, drawn from stories he heard as a child in India as well as on folk traditions he later collected all over the world, Rudyard Kipling gives some wonderfully imaginative explanations.

Originally told by Rudyard Kipling for his own children, these witty, fanciful tales have been loved by generations of children ever since.

One of my most favorite stories. There is also an animated video with Jack Nicholson and music by Bobby McFerrin.

Different from other stories that might startle my child, this is an excellent one in terms of content and performance. The narrator is awesome and his voice is exactly what my child wanted in order to sleep.

Excellent to make kids sleep

The narrator is just brilliant bringing alive a classic story written by Radyard Kipling .

We gave the story 4 stars cause nowadays spanking is frowned upon & parents don’t seem to like their kids reading about this practice ; we choose to have conversations about the way some things we done ‘back in the day’ and how things have changed.

Brilliant
