저자: 존 레이놀즈 가디너
미국 캘리포니아주 로스앤젤레스에서 태어났다. 캘리포니아대학교에서 공학 석사 학위를 받았고, 미국 항공기 제조사에서 연구 개발 엔지니어로 일했다. 형의 권유로 듣게 된 TV 각본 창작 수업을 계기로 본격적인 글쓰기를 시작했다. 그의 첫 작품인 《조금만, 조금만 더》는 처음에는 시나리오였으나 TV 프로듀서의 권유로 출판사에 투고되었고, 이내 어린이책으로 출간되었다. 1974년 아이다호주의 허드슨 카페에서 들은 로키산 전설을 바탕으로 쓴 이 작품은 출간 직후 엄청난 인기를 얻었으며, 뉴욕타임스 '눈에 띄는 어린이책'에 선정되었다. 이후, 남부 캘리포니아 아동문학협회 어린이책 상, 유타주 아동문학협회 비하이브 상 등을 수상했다. 지은 책으로 《광합성 소년》, 《일급비밀》 들이 있다.
