About this listen
Join best-selling author and constitutional scholar David L. Hudson, Jr. for awe-inspiring listening on the life and career of one of the most revered Supreme Court justices in US history.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the second woman ever to serve on the US Supreme Court, was already a legendary lawyer before she ever became a federal judge. For many years, she brilliantly litigated gender discrimination cases, including several that reached the Supreme Court. In her later years, her legal victories and lifelong commitment to justice elevated her to the status of pop culture icon when she became known as “the Notorious RBG.”
In this engrossing 12-lecture audio series, Supreme Court expert David L. Hudson Jr. provides an inside look at Ginsburg’s life and career from her childhood in Brooklyn to her 27-year tenure on the Court of Last Resort. You’ll get to know her as a young woman who overcame personal tragedy, antisemitism, and sexism to graduate at the top of her class and gain acceptance to Cornell University.
You’ll then follow Ginsburg on her boundary-breaking trajectory through law school and into her early advocacy as an attorney, her appointment to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, and her confirmation hearing before the US Senate. As you examine her most famous opinions and dissents, you’ll gain renewed admiration for the woman behind the powerful pen.

A fresh reminder of Ginsburg's brilliance
Although I had learned a great deal about RBG's legal accomplishments, especially in the wake of her recent passing, I did not know much about her as a person. This course remedied that gap, dovetailing accounts of her singular achievements with details of her personal journey that made them all the more remarkable. I had not known about her family's humble beginnings, the tragedy of her older sister's death, or her experiences with antisemitism, for example. Hudson peppers his account with moving and humanizing details about her journey, including the degree to which her mother sacrificed her own intellect and ambition to create a foundation for Ruth's success.

Exceptionally well-presented audio course
David Hudson, constitutional scholar and prolific author, is one of my favorite Learn25 professors, and this is one of his best audio courses. Much has been written about Ginsburg's jurisprudence. This series connects her distinctive biography - and passions - with your stunning legal accomplishments. Great course.

The Notorious RBG
This book tells tells the story of Ruth Bader Ginsberg with a brief section on her biography and then breaks down her major cases and decisions, from both sides of the bench. Hudson, a former student of the American justice icon relates her accomplishments and discusses the reasons why she was such a major force for progress in the American judicial system. The tremendous respect an deep affection he felt for the woman who was a mentor to so many lawyers and judges in the U.S.A.
This is a great book for anyone who has any interest in the life of a major contributor to the interpretation of American law or growth of the equal rights movement in the U.S. and I loved reading it.
