Kaptajnen & Bolsjeprinsessen har to forsider. Sandra Schwartz vil nemlig gerne vise, at alle situationer er farvet af øjnene, der ser, og at enhver sag har to sider. Bogens to historier handler begge om savn og ensomhed og giver et indblik i to børns oplevelse af dynamikkerne i en klasse i forandring. Det er svært at navigere i for en følsom dreng som Isak, der ikke har let ved at udtrykke sig med ord, og for Ena der ikke er klar til skiftet fra 'at lege' til ’at være sammen’.
