Riveting. Raw. Emotional.
A must listen/read for any first responder or anyone that loves a first responder.
Articulate, descriptive language that eloquently captures the life experiences of first responders.
The journey and stories shared are anything but fictional.

the entire book is incredible!
James takes you on duty with Jack and all.of the characters introduced in Kinder. As a veteran and first responder, I was stricken by James' ability to walk me through the scenes, complete with the sights, sounds, and smell. this book was fantastic and paints a complete relatable picture of the cost, and the price paid by those who live a life of service. Bravo, mate.

Beautifully Traumatic, my New #1 Book Ever Read!
Reveals the heartbreaking side of the fire service and life. On the surface, tv shows and social media reveal life’s highlight reels limiting our ability to actually see the depths of our fellow humans. This story destroys the norm with real examples of how traumas in our lives not spoken or addressed can bring pain to multiple generations. This story demonstrates that with self work, specifically post traumatic growth, life’s challenges can indeed make us stronger, more compassionate, and better people for ourselves and loved ones. James has reignited my passion for the fire service and I will without a doubt be a stronger fire captain, husband, and father due to the reflection and personal relation this book gave me. As the Brits say, main character is a Brit, bloody brilliant!

A first responder “must read!”
James, you have done an outstanding job again. As I listened to the audio book version of “Kinder,” I was so drawn into the characters and the depth to which you developed them. Your narrative, including in depth descriptions of various emergency calls that made me feel like I was right there or reminded me of similar calls, was SO powerful.
The emotional energy, time, and creative courage you poured into this book is revealed in each and every chapter. THANK YOU for sharing this!
