About this listen

The second book in the Broken Empire series, Lawrence takes his young anti-hero one step closer to his grand ambition.

To reach greatness you must step on bodies, and many brothers lie trodden in my wake. I’ve walked from pawn to player and I’ll win this game of ours, though the cost of it may drown the world in blood…

The land burns with the fires of a hundred battles as lords and petty kings fight for the Broken Empire. The long road to avenge the slaughter of his mother and brother has shown Prince Honorous Jorg Ancrath the hidden hands behind this endless war. He saw the game and vowed to sweep the board. First though he must gather his own pieces, learn the rules of play, and discover how to break them.

A six nation army, twenty thousand strong, marches toward Jorg's gates, led by a champion beloved of the people. Every decent man prays this shining hero will unite the empire and heal its wounds. Every omen says he will. Every good king knows to bend the knee in the face of overwhelming odds, if only to save their people and their lands. But King Jorg is not a good king.

Faced by an enemy many times his strength Jorg knows that he cannot win a fair fight. But playing fair was never part of Jorg’s game plan.

great

Mark Lawrence it's really good in storytelling. Jorg Ancrath, though he is not a good character, he's very compelling and passionate. The book is huge, but worthy. The performance of the reader is excellent.

Darkness continued.

This second instalment of the Broken Empire trilogy is as entertaining as the first but as Jorg has grown up he has mellowed somewhat. (of course everything is relative, Jorg being mellow still means his heart and soul remains as black as pitch).

Mark Lawrence has become a favourite author of mine and his excellent story has been well interpreted by Joe Jameson.

I note that the third instalment of the trilogy is not being published until August 2013. Lets hope that Audible are able to secure Joe Jameson's services to narrate the upcoming instalment so we don't have to wait too long for the next instalment of this great trilogy.

From villan to hero

If you could sum up King of Thorns: Broken Empire 2 in three words, what would they be?

This really builds on the first as the characters develop and our anti-hero starts to show his human side.

What was one of the most memorable moments of King of Thorns: Broken Empire 2?

There are a few challenging and dark sections that I won't spoil here... but I appreciated the lighter lifts!

What about Joe Jameson’s performance did you like?

The performance was exceptional

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The dark light.

Any additional comments?

I can't believe audible has only x2 parts of a trilogy available. Not really good enough!!!

All time favourite.

Although I have read it 3 times before. Listening to it in Jameson's impeccable performance shook me once more.

Decent follow up

Although it doesn't compare to the first book in the series, King Of Thorns is still a good and compelling story.

Joe Jameson is yet again delivering the story with a captivating performance.

The narrator is the best part of the book

The narrator is the best part of the book. He truly makes the book come alive. The story is weird and different but in a good way. If you like weird.

Struggled through 2nd book

Book 2 features a lot of poetic writting which is good in small doses and it is not the case in this book. Plot is shallow, filled with conviniencies on every step that are delivered to the main character mostly by accident.

Liked the narrator whom helped me struggle through the book.
