Canadian sensation Elvira Kurt, comes down to Houston to unleash her hilarious and insightful brand of comedy. On Kitten with a Wit, Kurt takes her unique position of being an outsider to poke fun at some of the everyday ridiculousness to which Americans have become accustomed. She also uses her wildly animated delivery to ridicule everything from marketing gimmicks to the erroneous notion that aging is a pleasant and calming experience. Kitten with a Wit grabs listeners from the first joke and doesn’t let go until it’s ludicrous and satirical end.
What did you love best about Kitten with a Wit?
She was just plain funny both for straights and gays. I love the playground routine bit, it makes you think really hard while you are laughing so hard your sides hurt. She brings up so good question about how we grew up compared to the kids today. And she is just plain funny in her stand-up routine,What other book might you compare Kitten with a Wit to and why?
I think Kate Clinton, Or Suzanne Westenhoefer stand-up is just as good but Elvia is more main stream than Kate. Suzanne did try to be a little mainstream. Margo Gomzo also is a good stand-up comparison. Lea Delea maybe a little like her but Elvia is more mainstream. Elvia is just funny like every one in this list.Which scene was your favorite?
The playground Stuff in her routine, And her imitation of her mother talking. I like the way she imitates her mother like once she tells everyone she is a lesbian and she imitates her mothers reaction. "We knew, it was all those Cats" She just is funny.Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
My reaction to her stand-up routine was to laugh and laugh until I cried and my sides hurt.Any additional comments?
She is one of the truly funny woman out there, the fact she is also out, proud and again FUNNY. SHE IS AWESOME!Elvia Kurt is the New Playground for Comedy!
