"Kræn i Kragheden" er titelnovellen på Johan Skjoldborgs novellesamling fra starten af 1900-tallet. Kræn er en mærkelig mand, som alle ved, hvem er, men som ingen rigtig kender. Han er meget belæst, men elendigt beklædt. Han kan få selv de klogeste til at føle sig dumme. Til gudstjenesten maser han sig ind mellem byens bedste borgere, som om han var den allerbedste. Og det er han måske også? Johan Skjoldborg (1861-1936) var en dansk forfatter, der 1893 debuterede med romanen "I skyggen". Hans store gennembrud blev romanen "En stridsmand" fra 1896, og efter mange velmodtagne udgivelser fik Johan Skjoldborg opført en æresbolig ved Løgstør.
