About this listen

In 1992, the deadliest year in Chicago’s history, seven-year-old Dantrell Davis was shot and killed in front of his elementary school inside the public housing complex Cabrini-Green. What happened to Dantrell led to a truce among Chicago’s gangs, but it also ignited a national panic about poverty and violence in America’s cities. Dantrell’s name would soon be used to demolish all of Chicago’s high-rise public housing, displacing tens of thousands of low-income families.

Christmas is the single biggest annual event on the planet, a time for merry-making, over-indulgence, peace, goodwill, and the occasional family row. It’s as comfortable and familiar as a pair of old shoes and yet still glittery and exciting. But what do you really know about it? It’s stuffed full of traditions and rituals that most of us have been observing all our lives without having the slightest idea of where they come from.

Story
The history of the tablets translated in the following book is strange and beyond the belief of modern scientists. Their antiquity is stupendous, dating back some 36,000 years. The writer is Thoth, an Atlantean Priest-King, who founded a colony in ancient Egypt after the sinking of the mother country. He was the builder of the Great Pyramid of Giza, erroneously attributed to Cheops. In it he incorporated his knowledge of the ancient wisdom and also securely secreted records and instruments of ancient Atlantis.

It was long overdue. Intimate in the sub-title is right on. This (my) country will never really care to remember the war until we (the veterans) are long gone. This will make a great reference book for generations.

Companion to the excellent documentary series by Ken Burns. Illuminating, tragic account of an important period of U.S. and Vietnamese histories. Burns takes advantage of access to new documents and film from the period. Relevant today and tomorrow.

It was hard time for all of us.
To comprehend, and the author is there saying to kill our men (American soldiers) as they are murders, as if they weren't there selves, reminds why i hate this woman so bad, we can trade her for the author who opened a lot of channels for us but jane closed a lot of doors for us mm Augusta Maine.

Well written and thought provoking.
The book provided an outstanding coverage of the political environment before and after the US direct involvement. It was a little lean on tactical coverage of military activity although there are other books that cover troop activity and movement. I felt like it was a balanced coverage whether or not US combat troops should have been deployed.

Learned a lot...
I learned a lot that was far beyond my personal experience. Personally I would have liked more on the war’s legacy but one cannot have everything and what one does have here is a superb one-volume history of the war which is much more substantial than the coffee-table book which it appears to be at first sight.
